Australia won a record seventh T20 World Cup, chasing 151 with 17 balls to spare in front of a record crowd of more than 28,000 at Lord’s. It was the highest successful chase in any Women’s T20 World Cup final, and it ended England’s unbeaten record in home World Cups — they had won all four they had hosted across both formats.

Beth Mooney was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series, her 64 off 49 the third consecutive half-century she has made in a T20 World Cup final. Lucy Hamilton took her first World Cup wicket in the second over, removing Amy Jones. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Freya Kemp had rescued England with an 80-run stand, but 150 was never enough. Australia have now won all seven T20 World Cup finals they have appeared in, and the title is their fourteenth women’s World Cup overall.

The tournament was the tenth edition and the first held in England and Wales since 2009. Twelve teams took part across 33 matches, with the Netherlands making their debut.

India’s Test victory at Lord’s was the standout result of the English summer and the first time an India women’s side had played a Test at the ground. It came in a year where the multi-format pattern produced split outcomes: India took the Test, England took the T20Is.

What results change

Why does an upset count for more?

Every completed international feeds into the ICC rating calculation, and the weighting is not even. Points are awarded according to the strength of the opposition, so a lower-ranked side beating a higher-ranked one moves the table far more than a favourite winning as expected.

That is why a result like Malaysia’s win over Samoa matters to those teams’ T20I positions in a way a 3–0 Australian whitewash of a weaker side does not.

How do results decide World Cup places?

Places at the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup go to the top eight finishers from the 2026 tournament, the host nation, and then the next highest-ranked teams on the T20I list as at 6 July 2026.

That cut-off date gave results in the months either side of it unusual weight. Current standings are on our rankings page.
